The 100 Most Beautiful English Words

Dr. Robert Beard is a poet who’s been working with dictionaries and lexical studies. He was the man responsible for the section “word of the day” at yourdictionary.com for several years.

Getting in touch in such a peculiar way with the English language led Dr. Robert to write a book called the 100 most beautiful words in English.

So I took a few words from his selection and made a typographic image using the Tagxedo engine. Here is the outcome!

Amazing Fact Generator – Mental Floss

Mental Floss is one of my great resources of useless, previously unseen information. I recently found out about them and I’m still stuck at their Amazing Fact Generator.

It’s basically a widget they have in one of their pages. You keep hitting a button and they prompt you with an amazing fact, such as:

Despite its reputation as a cosmonaut staple, freeze-dried ice cream only made one mission to space. In 1968, it provided instant sugar rushes to the astronauts of Apollo 7, but by 1973 freezers were installed in space shuttles, removing the need for the freeze-dried stuff

The bikini wax has been around for hundreds of years. Muslim brides-to-be in the Middle East and North Africa remove all their body hair before the wedding night.

Make sure you pay them a visit. It’s here, at Mental Floss!
